Nathan Wolford
Camp No Limits Mentor

Ever since Nathan Wolford lost his legs in a car accident, his motivation has been stepping out of his comfort zone. He reminds himself of this constantly since starting his recovery journey. Nathan began using ‘stubbie’ prosthetics within a few months of his amputations. He found out about a Boot Camp that was created through his prosthetist at Hanger Clinic which was designed to help bilateral above the knee amputees learn how to walk properly. Nathan attended this Boot Camp as soon as he could, which was the first time he really stepped out of his comfort zone. This showed him that he could truly have an independent life for himself!

Through this experience at Boot Camp, Nathan also found out about Camp No Limits. He described it in this way: “One of my first thoughts was how CNL was such a unique experience. I had never tried anything like it before.” Going into it he was nervous because he didn’t know what to expect. Nonetheless, he was very excited to try it out! One of his favorite activities at Camp are the energizers. He said that watching the kids adapt to the moves was very empowering for him! He also said, “there were times where I would think about things being too hard, but after seeing everyone do it, you realize it didn’t matter, since they all found a way.”

By now, Nathan has gotten very good at using his prosthetic legs. He even participated in two 5k races! The races were specified for those with limb loss/limb differences, which made it feel like a safe environment for him. It was a goal of Nathans to complete these races, so when he did, it was a huge milestone. Learning and using his prosthetics has been a daunting process, but he continued to wear them, just so he could get adjusted. It helped him with learning how to walk and made him feel way more confident, too!

Nathan is currently enrolled as a college student studying ministry, with a minor in biblical study. He wasn’t sure if he would be able to graduate after his accident, but now he only has one semester left, and he’s actively working in the library, as well. Nothing has stopped Nathan from achieving success! Great job Nathan, we can’t wait to see what else you can accomplish- your progress has been astonishing!
